41 Countries Offering a Digital Nomad Visa in 2024 | The Complete List
Over the past years, more and more countries have started to recognize the enormous benefits of hosting digital nomads. With more than 40 nations offering specialized ‘digital nomad visas’, you now get to choose from an extensive list of remote working possibilities. Trying to figure out what your next destination is going to be? This is your perfect starting point to explore the possibilities.
What is a Digital Nomad Visa?
A digital nomad visa is a unique type of visa that gives you the freedom to live and work remotely in a foreign country for an extended period. The concept gained popularity when, during the global pandemic, many countries experienced a significant decline in tourism revenue. Governments soon realized that attracting digital nomads could be an ideal and alternative way to bring business, money and travel into the country.
Even though some countries offer other types of long-stay work or travel visas, in this article I’ll focus only on digital nomad visas specifically designed to support you in generating income through online work or remote employment.
The specific requirements and conditions of digital nomad visas vary from country to country. In most cases, you’ll need to demonstrate a stable income or hold a remote job that allows you to support yourself during your stay. Additionally, you may be required to provide proof of health insurance, a (return) ticket, a clean criminal record and sufficient funds to cover your expenses. The duration of digital nomad visas typically ranges from a few months to 1 or 2 years, depending on the country. This provides you with a great advantage compared to travelling with a regular tourist visa, which often restricts stays to a maximum of 3 months.
Are you eager to embrace the ‘slowmad’ lifestyle and do you want to immerse yourself in a country for a more extended period of time? Then a digital nomad visa is the ideal way to fulfil your goals. Here’s an extensive list of countries offering one right now:
